The SWiPE research consortium is led by professor Anne Kovalainen from the University of Turku. The consortium consists of research units from the University of Turku, ETLA (The Research Institute of the Finnish Economy) and FIOH (The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health). Also, the research units collaborate with various stakeholders as a part of the SWiPE project. These collaborators include SITRA (The Finnish Innovation Fund), Kone Elevators Ltd, the Finnish Family Firms Association, the Finnish Federation for Settlement Houses, the Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship (CREME), and the Enterprise and Diversity Research Cluster, University of Birmingham.
At the University of Turku, SWiPE is located at the School of Economics Entrepreneurship unit, with focus on entrepreneurship and enterprise policies, and at the network of the Turku Centre for Labor Studies (TCLS), that focuses on skills and capabilities, work and labor. The entrepreneurship unit has a strong body of experience in studying entrepreneurship and a mission of generating practicable, relevant results and recommendations through research. The research group is member of several international networks and has 15 professorial level, post.doc level and graduate level researchers.
ETLA, The Research Institute of the Finnish Economy is a private not-for-profit research organization. ETLA has both a scholarly and policy orientation, and frequently advises and assists, e.g. the Prime Minister’s Office, the Research and Innovation Council and the Ministry of Employment and Economy. ETLA has carried out some of the most influential policy-oriented research projects in Finland e.g. on the new economy, ICT and globalization research. ETLA’s work has been instrumental for both public and private strategy as well as policy in Finland. In the SWiPE research group of ETLA will provide research expertise in economic dynamism, platforms, entrepreneurship and the transformation of economies.
The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) is a multidisciplinary research organization in the field of work and occupations and has deep knowledge of working life in Finland. FIOH carries out high-level research and converts the results of scientific research into innovative cost-effective solutions. FIOH coordinates and participates in EU-programmes and works in close collaboration with EU research centers in its relevant fields. FIOH is expert organization to the WHO and the ILO. The research group at FIOH provides expertise in public sector organizations and networks, especially in organizational work competences and capabilities, in the renewal of institutional practices and methods of stakeholder dialogue.
