SWiPE – Smart Work in Platform Economy is an Academy of Finland and Strategic Research Council -funded strategic research consortium for the years 2016-2019.
The forms and contents of work, as well as the ways work in paid employment and in entrepreneurship is done are changing. A majority of the changes are directly or indirectly related to globalization, to new technologies and to new technological platforms. One part of these changes concerns also the current ways to organize training and education. The SWiPE Consortium analyses these phenomena in a collaboration formed by researchers at the School of Economics – University of Turku, at ETLA, the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy and at FIOH, The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health.
The SWiPE consortium is interested in analyzing the renewal and transformation of work, new entrepreneurial activities, as well as the shifts and dynamics between paid work and entrepreneurship. In addition, we analyze some forms of vocational training and the entrepreneurial university as examples of responses to the needs of future work and working life. Finally, the consortium addresses the themes of migration, and migrants paths to employment and entrepreneurship in its analysis. The consortium works on the above themes together with international experts.
